Raajje.mv understands that Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud will sign the Faafu Atoll “mega project” agreement on his March trip to the Maldives.

Speaking to Raajje.mv, a senior official of the Government reported that the King will visit the Maldives on the 15th of March. He will stay in the country until the 27th of March.

As part of his trip to the Maldives, King Salman will sign the agreement on the mega project for Faafu Atoll. The official also said that a special ceremony will be held for the signing.

A contingent of 1500 peoples and five jets will accompany the King on his March trip. He will begin his vacation after signing the agreement. For his trip, three resorts had been booked for 13 days.

Under the mega project, the island of Himithi and various lagoons will be taken. The surrounding areas are to be reclaimed to create a city that can house one million people. The project will be undertaken in three phases.

Over 70 buildings will be created under the first phase. Under that phase, area around Himithi and Maavaru lagoon will be reclaimed. The entire area will amount to three nautical miles. Under the second and third phases, other lagoons of the area will be reclaimed.

Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said details of Saudi monarch’s trip will be publicized by the Foreign Ministries of the two nations. He said if the Atoll project is to be signed on, then it would be part of the formal agenda of the trip. Muaz said as the President’s Office had not publicized any details, then it would be difficult to reveal the agenda.

Saudi King had begun his tour of Asia, with his first stop in Malaysia. He will visit Indonesia next, staying for a period of 12 days. He is scheduled to visit China and Japan, with Maldives as the last stop.
