Raajje.mv understands that a lawyer at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) had changed documentation in a bid to save her spouse from theft charges.
Reliable sources had reported to Raajje.mv that the lawyer had changed the documentation while the case was being tried in Court and in the process had saved her husband from the charges.
The source reported that the lawyer had changed the Court proceeding documents to show that the evidence against her husband had not been filed with the Office. As such, the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.
The Court proceeding is a document showing the events of the trial. Changing this document is a punishable offence.
The issue had occurred when Muhthaz Muhsin was serving as PG and it came to light when present PG Aishath Bisham had assumed administration of the Office. The case had come to light, when another case on the spouse was filed with the Office last year and a review of the past cases was ordered.
A special committee of the Office was convened to review the cases, but no action was taken on the lawyer in question.
The lawyer is still employed in PG, litigating on several high profile cases including cases on political figures.
PGO denies any wrongdoing or any review of such a case.
