Two senior prosecutors have resigned from Prosecutor General’s Office, amidst growing resentment within the Office with regards to chief prosecutor Aishath Bisham.
It has been reported to Raajje.mv, that lawyers Noorusalaam Aboobakr and Ahmed Hisham Wajeeh had resigned. Noorusalaam resigned this month, while Hisham resigned last December.
At the time of his resignation, Hisham was working on the terror charges of former President Mohamed Nasheed, some of the cases charged against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, former MMPRC MD Abdullah Ziyath and Hamid Ismail.
Noorusalaam was overseeing the terror charges raised on former VP Adeeb over the Presidential launch attack, possession of illegal weapons raised on Adeeb, abuse of power charges raised on the former VP, as well as the murder of Abdul Muheeth (Bobby) and a case raised on Hamid Ismail.
Raajjemv understands that many lawyers at PG have expressed discontent over Bisham’s administration of the office. Many lawyers have pointed out that Bisham does not seek their consul, burdens certain lawyers with an overwhelming case load and ordered around them. They also note that lawyers were discriminated and that Bisham had acted against agreed on decisions.
An official speaking to Raajjemv said that since Bisham had assumed administration of PGO, administrative issues had increased substantially. The official also said that interpersonal conflicts between the lawyers and Bisham had remained unresolved. He reported that most lawyers are currently contemplating their resignation.
Responding to this, Bisham said the lawyers had resigned on their own accord, with Noorusalaam resigning after sending in his notice. She added that she had not acted in violation of rules and regulations.
