EC opens registration for out of constituency voters
Registrations were opened on Sunday, the 19th of February and will receive submissions until the 2nd of March.
Application forms are available from every island, Malé, consulate offices in India, and the embassy in Sri Lanka.

Elections Commission (EC) has announced re-registrations for voters casting ballots for the upcoming local council elections outside their constituencies.

Registrations were opened on Sunday, the 19th of February and will receive submissions until the 2nd of March.

Registration forms are available from all island councils, province offices if in Addu City or Fuvahmulah, the local council election center, a Maldivian National University campus in Mahchangoalhi ward, if in Malé city.

Potential voters casting ballots outside the country can acquire a form from the Maldives consulate office in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala or the Maldivian embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Application forms are also available for download on the Elections Commission’s website.

The commission will receive applications every week day from 08:30 to 15:00, from 9:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays and other public holidays, and from 15:00 to 17:00 on Fridays.  The consulate and embassy will receive applications from 09:30 to 16:00 and from 12:00 to 17:00 on non-work days.

Voters need to re-register after the elections, initially scheduled for January 14th, were postponed through a Civil Court order.

The ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), more accurately its faction loyal to President Abdulla Yameen had filed a case to delay the elections on the grounds that the party was ill-prepared.

The elections are now scheduled for April 15th.
