Gemanafushi council's 2015 finances could not be audited
Gemanafushi council could not be audited as it had not disclosed its accounts.
Local Council Act states that the council president is charged with submitting financial reports to the relevant authorities.

Gemanafushi council’s financial activity for 2015 could not be audited as the council had not disclosed its accounts, the Auditor General’s Office said on Monday.

A statement from the office said it had conducted a compliance-audit for council activity in 2015 instead.

The Local Council Act, passed in 2010, states the council’s president is charged with monitoring and managing the council’s finances. It is also the council president’s responsibility to submit annual financial reports, of expenditure and income, to the relevant authorities. An administrative employee can also especially be tasked with overseeing council finances and accounts.

The office further said that MVR 30,000 of state revenue, accumulated by the council, which has to be deposited at the council’s consolidation account, had not been done so – in violation of the state’s finance regulations.

While members of the council are required to submits financial statements to the council administration, the Auditor General added that this had not been done either.

Gemanafushi island is in Gaafu Alifu atoll.
