Hussain Hilmy, former Youth Minister and Fisheries Minister at President Maumoon’s cabinet, has been ordered to pay over MVR 2 million to former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim.
Nazim is presently serving an 11-year jail term on charges of possession of illegal firearms. Hilmy is a shareholder of Sunland Hotels.
Civil Court ordered Hilmy to pay MVR 2.3 million. In the Civil Court hearings, Hilmy had proposed to pay the amount, starting from February; an arrangement agreed upon by the two parties.
Civil Court decreed that in the event, Castaway Maldives, a company owned by Hussain Hilmy, made payments to Nazim, the amount would be deducted from the total amount owned to Nazim.
The documents regarding the case were exchanged on Sunday.
