Civil Court has scheduled a hearing for MP Faris Maumoon’s case over his dismissal from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) for Monday.
PPM’s former chair Aiminath Nadira, whose dismissal is also questioned in the MP’s case, told RaajjeMV that the hearing is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Maumoon and Nadira’s lawyer, former Attorney General Husnu Al Suood, said the case was first in despite resolution and the court has scheduled three hearings since, all of which, representatives of the defendants – the ruling PPM, had failed to attend.
While the last hearing, on Thursday, had to be cancelled because of their absence, Suood stated that the delay is a deliberate attempt to halt proceedings.
Maumoon was axed in July 2016 for violating a three-line whip. His father, and former longstanding President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had heavily criticized the dismissal.
