Former Member of Parliament for Ivahandhoo Constituency Ahmed Abdullah has stated that the Government was now spouting gibberish in their efforts to mislead efforts.

He made the statement speaking in RaajjeTv’s “Fala Suruhee” program.

Ahmed said the current Government had claimed last year that the economy will grow by 12 percent, but in reality the economy fell by half of that projection. He questioned on why the economy was sluggish and reserves were dipping.

“Just yesterday we saw that [Government] had borrowed 100 million to manage reserves from an Indian Bank. They claimed this year will be a surplus [budget], and yet state that debt is larger than productivity. These do not add up. In making such claims, the Government is now spouting gibberish. The more they talk, the public begins to know that they do not have a plan and how incapable they are,” Ahmed said.

He also responded to the claims made by Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz over the issue of Rasfannu. Ahmed said that while Minister Muizz had said no additional expenses had been incurred, expenses were incurred by vehicles bringing in sand to Rasfannu, including petrol and diesel expenditure as well as employee expenses.

Ahmed said the public was well aware of the Government gimmicks, pointing out to social media commentary as proof of this. He said the Government had not fulfilled public aspirations, prompting Government scrutiny and resultant loss of faith.

In reference to the Government’s claims of over 60,000 jobs, Ahmed said no such real statistics existed. He said the claim was not corroborated by civil service figures and pension schemes.
