MET warns of rough seas in central atolls
Islands in central and southern regions will experience thunderstorms and heavy showers.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has on Saturday asked those in the central and southern atolls to be cautious of heavy rain and extreme sea conditions.

Some islands in these regions will also experience thunderstorms and heavy showers, while almost every island will reportedly have rainfall.

The authority on local weather further said that most northern regions will have fairly sunny weather, with winds of 13 to 23 miles per hour.

The MET office, as the meteorological service is known, stated that winds in the aforementioned regions can blow as fast as 17 to 35 miles per hour.

The service advised residents to take safety precautions.

The Disaster Management Center had also released a warning on Wednesday saying central atolls are expected to have large swells breaking at their shores, high tides and coastal flooding
