The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has on Saturday held a workshop ahead of kicking off their ‘door-to-door’ campaign for the upcoming local council elections.
MDP said that Saturday’s workshop catered especially to members who would be active in capital city Malé and its constituencies.
While many members of the Party’s campaign taskforce are in attendance at the workshop, the party’s 2013 presidential running-mate Dr. Musthafa Luthufee is one of the leading members.
Dr. Luthufee is to participate in the door-to-door events himself as well.
The Elections Commission had set the candidacy deadline for the local council elections at February 28th.
MDP has, especially with the election of its new chair Hassan Latheef, galvanized their efforts for the elections, now set for April after a Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) case had delayed it.
The party has also raised concerns about the potential lack of transparency of the ballots.
