The Parliament has scheduled to debate the new evidence bill in the fourth sitting for this year on Monday.
The bill, proposed by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) MP Ali Shah, creates the framework under which evidence and testimonies should be collected, offered, processed, and the criteria on handling witnesses.
The new evidence bill is essential to enforcing the Constitution’s article 42, which garauntees fair and transparent hearings for all parties involved.
If passed, the bill would become procedural law and thus would be applied outside of legal contexts to dictate how evidence and testimonies should be handled in every case.
