The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has on Saturday announced that it has commenced a towing operation in the densely-populated Malé.
The Police said that it would tow vehicles that are old and damaged, unregistered, been parked for a long time, or parked against regulations.
MPS cautioned vehicle owners to remove such vehicles before they are towed.
This operation, aimed at clearing up road space in the packed streets of the capital, would focus primarily on roads that four-wheelers and other large vehicles drive through.
The Police had added that, in order to reduce damage during towing, they would shatter the windshields and shutters of vehicles and that they would not be responsible for any damage.
