The Sahih Muslim is considered to be the second most authentic hadhith collection

The 9th volume in Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed’s translation of the Sahih Muslim, one of the most highly acclaimed hadhith collections in the world, has been released.

The latest volume was released at an event on Sunday night, at the Iskandhar School, by former president Mohamed Nasheed.

Sheikh Hussain, who has been translating and interpreting the collection in Dhivehi, said that the 9th volume is divided into five chapters.

In his address at Sunday night’s event, Sheikh Hussain said that the Sahih Muslim is especially important for its hadhiths about the elevated role and status of women in Islamic society.

The Sahih Muslim, collected and initially distributed about 250 years ago, is considered to be the second most authentic hadhith collection to Sunni Muslims, the denomination that the entire Maldivian population belongs to.

Islamic scholar Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj is said to have ‘traveled widely’ to compile the text, reportedly evaluating 300,000 hadhiths, but contains over 2,000 that he believed to be authentic.

There are only six major hadhiths collections.
