Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that voting for the vacant position Chairperson will be held today.
The position of Chairperson had been vacant since Ali Waheed resigned. Lawyer Hassan Latheef, who had served as Youth Minister in President Nasheed’s cabinet is the sole candidate for the position.
Voting will begin at 2pm Friday and conclude at 6pm. Voting in the islands will be held in Party branches. A total of seven ballot boxes had been placed in various locations for voters in Male’.
Ballot boxes have been placed in Male’ in the following locations:
- Ballot boxes for Maafannu Central, South will be in M. Raalhufushi (in front of Corel Hotel)
- Ballot boxes for Machangolhi North, South will be in Cafeina
- Ballot boxes for Henveyru Northm Central and South will be in H. Rabee’ee Manzil
- Ballot boxes for Addu and Fuvamulah will be placed in MDP office ground floor
- Ballot boxes for members from atolls will be placed in MDP main Haruge
- Ballot boxes for Vilimale will be in the island’s MDP Haruge
- Ballot boxes for Hulhumalé will be placed near Watersports on Fithuroanu road
- Ballot boxes will be placed in 69/10 Old Nawala Road, Nugegoda for Sri Lankan voters
President Mohamed Nasheed will cast his ballot in Sri Lanka.
Hassan Latheef needs 5,000 votes to be elected as Chairperson.
