A German-tourist staying at the Olhuveli island resort near the capital, has died of a heart attack.

The 55-year-old had on Tuesday fallen off a water villa suddenly, and his wife had dived in immediately after.

The incident was called into the Maldives Police Service (MPS) at 20:30 the same night, an official from the MPS said, adding that he was transferred to Guraidhoo Hospital, in the same atoll, as soon as possible.

The officials say he was already dead by the time he was taken to the hospital, and has since been brought to a mortuary in Malé city.
