Former President and leader of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that he does not believe that anyone can take control of the party, ever.
Nasheed said that the members of MDP believes in democracy, and that one individual will not be able to take control of them.
Nasheed made the statement while speaking to RaajjeTV, in Sri Lanka.
While Nasheed has been in Sri Lanka since last Sunday, holding various high-level party meetings, a RaajjeTV team flew to Lanka for an exclusive interview with the former President, which is to be aired on Saturday night. Catch the interview at 9:30 pm, in a special episode of "Fala Surukhee".
Nasheed also took part in his first party National Congress meeting since his arrest and subsequent sentencing in March 2015, during his visit to Sri Lanka. A number of senior MDP and opposition coalition, Maldives United Opposition (MUO) had also traveled to Lanka to take part in the meetings.
The former President was sentenced to 13 years in jail over terror charges. He was granted permission to travel to the United Kingdom in January 2016, as has since been granted political asylum there.
Nasheed, who also met with Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka, said that he will return to the Maldives "when the time comes, even if it means going back to jail."
