Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Abdullah Riyaz has said that the leaders of the main three Party’s must align their goals and in the process, change the course of the nation.
Speaking in RaajjeTV’s “Fala Suruhee” program, the MP for Kimbidhoo Constituency, Abdullah Riyaz said former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim were the most popular political figures in the country. He said the three leaders must be able to reach to a consensus, given the status of the nation.
He urged the three leaders to set aside their individual agendas, adding if they showed a clear path for the citizens, they would follow and thereby change the course of the nation. Abdullah Riyaz had previously served as Commissioner of Police.
Abdullah Riyaz said that he remains optimistic and had not ruled out any options. He urged the public not to despair either.
Additionally, Riyaz said the biggest mark of development was freedom for the public. Noting that this is not visible in the Maldives, Riyaz said any dissent is rewarded with a hefty jail term.
Riyaz added that high rise buildings can only hide the real ground situation only for a while, especially when the general public was struggling to make ends meet. He further said the citizens were more aware of the realities at ground, adding that he did not believe the Government can now successfully market President Yameen as a viable option.
