Huravalhi resort opened by President
Resort’s underwater restaurant is the largest of its kind in the world

President Abulla Yameen has opened Hurawalhi Island Resort and Spa.

The resort five-star, 180-bed resort which is approximately 400m x 165m in size, and consisting of 90 villas sub-categorized to ocean pool villa, ocean villa, beach pool villa and beach villa. The property is a 40-million-dollar resort, located in Faadhippolhu Atoll built and operated by Champalars Holding Private Limited. It comprises of three restaurants, including an underwater restaurant which is the largest of its kind in the world.

First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim inaugurated "5.8"; the world’s largest underwater restaurant installed at Hurawalhi Island Resort and Spa. The 74 feet long restaurant consists of a steel structure with a transparent, acrylic dome situated 5.8 metres below the Indian Ocean, allowing diners to see marine life passing by.

Speaking in the ceremony, Resort owner Uhchu said he had always dreamt of building a larger restaurant after his company had opened up Ithaa undersea restaurant in Conrad Rangali, also operated by the group.

Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said in the past three years, rapid development was seen in the tourism sector. He said in the past three years, 20 resorts with around 3000 beds had opened up in the country. He added that the sustainable tourism practices implemented by the President was deserving of praise.
