Former President Mohamed Nasheed has arrived in Sri Lanka for the high-level meeting of MDP in the country.
He arrived in Sri Lanka Sunday morning.
MDP is yet to make an official statement on the visit.
A senior official of the Party reported that Nasheed will meet the Party’s National Congress and Advisory Committee regarding the current situation in the Maldives. However, the official said that he was not aware of the exact details of the official agenda of the meeting.
Many members of MDP had departed to Sri Lanka to meet the former President.
Nasheed will meet general members of the Party and supporters during this visit and the meeting is scheduled for February 2nd.
Nasheed had been living in exile for the past year, following the 13-year verdict on terror charges. He had visited Sri Lanka once during this period.
Even though he had been served a lengthy jail term, Nasheed remains confident that he will be able to return back to the Maldives.
MDP had denied that Nasheed was going to Sri Lanka. MDP Deputy Chairperson Ali Niyaz said that if Nasheed was paying a visit to Sri Lanka, his office will confirm that.
