PPM’s Maumoon faction has called on the Government to abide by UN rulings as the country is a member nation of the body.
A statement was released by the faction, following UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention’s ruling that former Defense Minister Mohamed Nazim’s arrest, trial and detention had no legal basis. The statement noted the key points noted in UNWGAD ruling, including the incomplete investigative process and the state of judiciary.
Therefore, the statement called on the Government to abide by the UN Group’s decision and to release Nazim.
The statement also called for the release of those individuals jailed and detained without an impartial trial and investigation.
