Cases submitted to High Court, HRCM stalled

Family of Ahmed Mahloof, Member of Parliament for Galolhu South Constituency, have expressed concern over his stalled appeal, while his sentence is nearing completion.

Mahloof’s family said the appeal had been stalled for months, while his sentence of six months had been completed on January 17. Wife, Nazra Naseem said documentation to this fact had been handed over to the family by Maldives Correctional Services.

The document said that Mahloof was presently serving a jail term of four months and 24 days on the charges of obstruction of Police duties. He set for release on June 6.

His family said that the stalled appeal was a key concern for the family. They said they had filed two cases in Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). The Commission is yet to issue a ruling on the cases.

His cases had also been filed in the UN Working Group of Arbitrary Detention.
