Ex-President Nasheed to fly to Sri Lanka tomorrow
MDP denies the "rumors" of the "planned" trip
Nasheed's office would disclose information about his trips

Former President Mohamed Nasheed currently living in exile in Britain has plans to fly to neighboring Sri Lanka, Raajje MV understands.

According to reliable sources, Nasheed’s visit to Sri Lanka is to take part in ‘an important sit-down over the present crisis in the Maldives.’ Rajje MV has learned that the meeting would be attended by the MDP advisory committee members along with the members of MDP national congress.

The “official” did not reveal the formal agenda of the meeting, while he confirmed that some of the members of the opposition MDP has already flown to Sri Lanka for the scheduled meeting with ex-president Nasheed. He further noted that Nasheed would meet his supporters in Sri Lanka on February 2, 2017.

Meanwhile, Maldivian Democratic Party has officially denied the “rumors” of former President Nasheed’s “planned” trip to Sri Lanka.

MDP said the reports of former president, along with members of the opposition coalition, travelling to Sri Lanka to hold talks are just rumors circulated by media.

The party denies the reports stating Nasheed was set to depart to Sri Lanka on Saturday. MDP also negated reports that the former President will meet Maldivians living in Sri Lanka on February 2.

MDP further said that Nasheed’s office would disclose information to the media about his trips.

It is noteworthy that Raajje MV has received information about former President Nasheed’s trip to Sri Lanka via reliable sources, though details of the meeting remain sketchy as neither the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party nor the opposition alliance MUO confirmed Nasheed’s trip.
