Abdullah Khaleel, Secretary General for PPM’s Yameen faction, has revealed that 200 candidates will contest in the Party’s primaries for the upcoming Local Council Elections.
Speaking in press conference held Wednesday, Khaleel said 212 out of 276 electoral regions have automatically qualified for the Party tickets without the need for a primary. The Party will therefore hold primaries for 64 regions. He said around 200 candidates will vie for council seats.
Khaleel further said the Party was now focusing on submitting all forms except for the candidature forms to Elections Commission before tomorrow. The candidature forms will be submitted to EC before February 6.
Khaleel denied any preferential treatment for the Party on use of state resources. He said the Party follows the rules and regulations in place when using state resources.
He also announced that a special assembly of the Party will be held in the first week of February and will be focused on PPM candidates contesting the LCE.
The primaries will be held on the 27th of this month.
