Sports Commissioner Ahmed Nasheed (Dave) has claimed that supporters of President Yameen wants Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Junaid to resign from his position.
In a facebook post, Dave said Junaid’s actions had cost support for President Yameen, adding that this was an irrefutable fact. Dave questioned on the repercussion of such actions, adding that Junaid had removed Yameen loyalists from their positions to further his own agenda.
Nasheed added that President Yameen’s support base were demanding for Junaid’s resignation and normalcy to return to MPL.
Many employees of MPL had commented on the post, with some highlighting the various achievements the organization had reached under Junaid’s management. They also defended Junaid, adding that he was fully committed to President Yameen.
Nasheed said that while he had no reason to doubt Junaid’s loyalty but there was a significant discrepancy to his words and actions.
Responding to Nasheed’s post, Junaid said Nasheed’s anger was over job opportunities at MPL as requested. He said that MPL had stringent guidelines and processes in selecting employees. Junaid also said the Sports Commissioner had a set mandate, which had not been achieved and as such, calling for his resignation was unacceptable. He further said that MPL had provided many job opportunities for youth in the country and questioned over why he should be the one to resign.
Junaid and MPL had been embroiled in legal cases against PPM PG Deputy Leader and Vilufushi Constituency MP Riyaz Rasheed’s Meridium Services. MPL had accused the Parliamentarian of corruption. MP Riyaz Rasheed had said he intended to file a defamation suit against Junaid.
