The Government today has published the regulations on Airport Service Charge and Airport Development Fees levied on passengers.
Under the new regulations, foreigners and locals will be charged US$ 25 and US$ 12 respectively, as Airport Service Charge. The new regulations states that airlines will have to pay the fees to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and will be enforced after December 8, 2016. Minors under the age of two, individuals under diplomatic immunity and transit passengers are exempted in the regulations.
US$ 25 and US$ 12 will be levied on foreigners and locals respectively, as Airport Development Fee. This will be applicable for passengers using Velana International Airport from May 1, 2017. While the fee has to be paid to MIRA by the airlines, individuals under diplomatic immunity is exempt from the charge.
