Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued travel advisory over the spread of Yellow fever. The agency in a statement has advised Maldivians travelling to countries with yellow fever outbreaks to take preventive measures as cities in Brazil declare state of emergency over the outbreak.

World Health Organization (WHO) has listed 42 countries as risk high countries which declares South American and African countries as the most high-risk.

The advisory issued by HPA instructs Maldivians travelling to any of the listed countries to get vaccinated before 10 days of departure. It also advised to cancel trips to any of the listed countries unless absolutely necessary.

HPA also instructs travelers to monitor the symptoms within 6 days after returning back from a trip to any of the countries. The symptoms of Yellow fever include high fever, Eyes and skin turning yellow, body ache, loss of appetite, dizziness, nausea and headache. Anyone with these symptoms are instructed to take immediate measures against mosquito bites, take treatment, share the travel information along with the medical information with HPA.
