Fishing has gone downhill and prices of fish in the local fish market are predicted to hike.
Fish was priced in the market for MVR 25 before the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan and is is now predicted to be priced at MVR 50.
Local fishermen gave several reasons for the hike in fish prices including the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan, given bad weather as well as several fishermen having taken leave from work.
"We do not believe fish prices will decrease" said one of the fishermen speaking to RaajjeMV.
However, last week a fisherman speaking to RaajjeMV has said that fish prices are estimated to decrease within the last 15 days of the fasting month.
Prices have hiked for several types of fish including local favourites, reef fish as well as tuna.
