Watermelon prices have been significantly slashed in the local market of capital city Male'.
A kilo of watermelon is now priced at just MVR 25.
According to merchants at the local market, the price drop was followed by an abundance in watermelon supply.
They also said that watermelon prices are expected to reduce even more in the near future.
While watermelons are a staple food in the Maldives during the fasting month of Ramadan, at the beginning of this year's fasting month the price of watermelons were set between MVR 30-35 per kilo.
However, the prices had reduced to by MVR 10 within just four days.
