Captain Ali Ihusan resigns from MNDF

Captain Ali Ihusan has resigned from his post at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Confirming the matter to RaajjeTV, Ihusan said 11th December 2016 was his tenth anniversary at the MNDF.

He stated that his resignation comes as he wishes to spend more time with family and the decision had been the most difficult in his life.

Ihusan further called on the youth to at least spend five years in the service of the MNDF or Maldives Police Service.

He stated that working at a uniformed-body institution bring positive disciplinary changes which are necessary in life.

He said that serving in the police or the military would prepare the talents, skills and mindsets needed to be successful in all areas of life.

A media official from the MNDF confirmed the matter to RaajjeTV and said that Captain Ihusan resigned on Wednesday due to personal reasons.

Ihusan, who was in the rank of captain at the time of resignation, played a senior role in the operations following controversial incidents in 2015.

They include the explosion on the presidential speedboat, the confiscation of weapons from Hibalhidhoo Island and raids in Male’ in search of hidden weapons.

He is also a member of the inquiry commission formed by President Abdulla Yameen. He is also a former senior of the MNDF Explosives Ordnance Unit and did a special audit of the MNDF weapons storage.

In 2006, Ihusan obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in the United States from Military Strategic Defence and Information Technology.

In 2012, he completed a six-month training with the US Marine Co. He completed a Master’s Degree in Singapore and did further air-borne trainings with the US military.

Being an expert in weapons, he testified in the trial against former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim who was jailed for possession of a weapon.

He was the deputy head of the MNDF weapons’ storage and spokesperson of the MNDF at the time of resignation. Ihusan is the son of Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi.
