Civil Court can review Kulhudhuffushi case, says Ecocare
Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court threw out similar case
Case filed against EPA, Environment Ministry
Case filed in Civil Court

Ecocare has stated that Civil Court can review the case filed by them over the Government’s decision to reclaim the mangrove in Kulhudhuffushi to develop an airport in the island.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Ecocare lawyer said their case was not regarding the land where the airport is to be built and developed.

Their case, he said, was regarding the decisions made by the Environment Ministry and Environment Protection Agency, over their own administrative practices.

He added that there were no grounds on which the Magistrate Court can review a case filed against state bodies.

All case documentation had been exchanged and therefore, the defense had requested to being the preliminary hearings.

Ecocare had filed for a stay order on all procedures and processes involving the reclamation of mangrove and construction of airport in the island, citing that procedures set by the two bodies were not being followed.
