The Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has vowed that his government will help construct the finance ministry’s 25-storey building.
In a statement given at the end of official talks at the President’s office on Wednesday, the Malaysian PM reportedly said USD 122 million is needed for the project, and that Malaysia is interested in seeing it completed.
PM Razak had also thanked the Maldives government for choosing a Malaysian company to construct the building.
The project was awarded to WZR Group of Companies in March 2016, to be completed within three years at the Hulhumale’ Phase-2 area.
Then-Finance Minister, now Vice President, Abdulla Jihad had said the WZR Group, which is financing the project, would be paid back over 23 years with the profits made from the building.
