Maldices Correctional Service (MCS) has rejected the request for jailed Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s to be transferred to house arrest.
Adeeb’s family had made the request citing doctor’s recommendation that he be 'in a dust-free environment due to his eye condition'.
Adeeb’s wife Nashwa said they have requested authorities to transfer him to house arrest where his environment can be controlled as per doctor’s instructions.
With reg 2 Adeebs critical eye condition doc has strictly advised Authorities 2 change Adeeb 2 a dust free place & for him 2 avoid strenuous activities. Therefore v hav requestd Authorities 2 change him 2 house arrest where his environment can b controled as per docs instructions

Correctional service rejected the request via a letter signed by Deputy Superintendent Ibrahim Nashid, which said that Adeeb’s condition does not meet the requirements in the Prisons and Parole Act, under which a prisoner can be transferred to house arrest.
After receiving the letter, Nashwa told RaajjeMV that Adeeb’s eye condition is worsening due to the amount of dust inside his prison cell.
Nashwa had also posted on Twitter that Adeeb was denied new glasses despite changes to his prescription.
Adeeb's glasses prescription number has increased & worsened from 1.75 to 2.50 since his arrest due to glaucoma & severe eye condition. We hav paid 4 his new glasses since Nov 27 & it has not been given yet. A pair of prescription specs requires special permits just cz its Adeeb?

Adeeb’s legal team has filed a case to the Civil Court seeking medical treatment abroad. The case is now in the dispute resolution stage.
While authorities have refused to transfer Adeeb to house arrest, some political prisoners have been transferred home citing renovations at the prison. Some have even been granted medical leave abroad.
