The family of Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb says his eye glass prescription has changed, but authorities have so far refused to give new prescriptions despite them paying for it on November 27.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Adeeb’s wife Maryam Nashwa said he cannot see clearly since he’s still having to use his old prescription glasses.
Nashwa detailed that his prescription has changed from 1.75 to 2.50 since his arrest due to glaucoma and other eye conditions.
She said that they have paid for four new glasses but that they were told they also require special permits.
Adeeb's glasses prescription number has increased & worsened from 1.75 to 2.50 since his arrest due to glaucoma & severe eye condition. We hav paid 4 his new glasses since Nov 27 & it has not been given yet. A pair of prescription specs requires special permits just cz its Adeeb?

Adeeb is serving prison sentences totaling 33 years after being found guilty of playing a prominent role in the MMPRC embezzlement case – the largest case of corruption in Maldives, and also for the attempted assassination of President Abdulla Yameen.
His family and lawyers have repeatedly cited lawyers as saying that his health is at considerable risk due to an internal cyst, glaucoma, and kidney stones.
Authorities have refused to allow him to seek treatment abroad, as recommended by his doctors, after claiming that he would flee and refuse to give back the embezzled money.
