Former Home Minister Umar Naseer, who recently signed with the opposition Jumhooree Party, is ‘unfamiliar’ with multi-party systems, says MP Mariya Didi.
The opposition aligned lawmaker said this in a post on her Twitter account responding to Naseer’s claim that he does not wish to support the policies of the Maldivian Democratic Party.
Mariya’s tweet said that both the Jumhoooree Party and the Maldivian Democratic Party are in a coalition, and therefore their policies are aligned.
“To say that he would not support one party but remain with the other is a fallacy, and shows clearly how unfamiliar he is with multi-party systems” the tweet, typed out in Dhivehi latin, said.
In response to this tweet, MP Ibrahim Shareef, said that Naseer would have ‘no choice’ but to abide by the party’s policies.
The tweet also said that MDP’s chair Hassan Latheef had said how Naseer would not be allowed ‘near the party’.
