Two individuals have been arrested over the burglary at Haa Alifu Molhadhoo power station.
The power station’s safe was stolen in the burglary that took place late Sunday night, and was found later on Monday.
The safe found forced open in the woods on Monday afternoon.
Molhadhoo island councilor, Ahmed Rifau said that the power station had confirmed that the safe had MVR 38,740 when it was stolen.
A police media official confirmed the arrest of two individuals, a 20-year-old and a 26-year-old, on Monday night.
Noting that one of the suspect’s residence was searched under a court order, as well as two other areas, police revealed that the search had led to the discovery of ‘a huge amount of cash’.
Police said that it is currently investigating the matter.
