Substandard sewage system caused sewage to seep into houses, says council

Heavy rain has caused flooding in GA Villingili, damaging houses.

Island Council President Mustafa Mohamed said four houses have been affected.

The Council President said equipment and furniture have been damaged in some houses, while sewage has seeped into others after the pipes became clogged.

The Council and island residents are currently cleaning those houses.

Mr Mohamed said that the substandard sewage system established by utility company Fenaka is to blame for the clogged pipes.

He also complained that some pumping stations are not working properly.
