Hassan Latheef, Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), says that the Party will not allow former Home Minister Umar Naseer to meddle in the Party.
He made the statement in a tweet posted on Sunday. The tweet was posted in response to a tweet made by another twitter user, who had called on the Chairperson to be aware and wary of Umar and the actions of the coalition. Referring to Umar as a virus, the twitter user called on Latheef to prevent any action that could impact former President Mohamed Nasheed.
In response, Hassan Latheef tweeted that neither the party members or the Party will allow Umar to intervene in Party matters.
Latheef was one of the first individuals to criticize Umar for joining opposition aligned Jumhooree Party. He had questioned whether if Umar had reviewed Jumhooree Party laws, in light of his claim that he intended to run as the Presidential candidate in the event Qasim Ibrahim, the Party’s leader cannot run. However, the Party laws bars any other candidate from running as Presidential candidate.
Umar’s decision to join Jumhooree Party had not been received warmly publicly.
