Maduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth says that keeping Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon in detention without a sentence, was a grave mistake that the Government was making.
Speaking in a press conference held in Henveyru Themaa, MP Ameeth said that it was illogical for the Government to assume that MP Faris would crave into pressure and give up his work on the reform agenda. He said that MP Faris was still determined and still steadfast in their goals.
Speaking in the press conference, Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain said that the treatment meted to MP Faris was very clear. He noted that MP Faris had served 150 days in jail without a sentence, while the whole of Maldives Police Service (MPS) had conducted a politically motivated investigation on him. Prosecutor General, he said, had followed the same suit as MPS, carrying out a trial that had violated legal procedures, processes and means.
Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef attested that MP Faris had worked against the corruption of this Government, adding that this was publicly seen.
Nolhivaram Constituency MP Hussain Areef had also chimed in on the press conference. He stated that the Government was engaging in widespread graft of public funds and routinely abused the judicial justice system.
The Parliamentarians in the press conference had expressed their concern over the extended detention of MP Faris, adding that they stood with the MP in their reform movement.
