Jumhoree Party (JP)’s deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz has begun campaigning for Former Minister Umar Naseer.
The Kinbdhoo MP on Twitter announced Umar Naseer’s signing into JP with a picture of his campaign poster.
The shared picture has the captions “Umar 2018” and “We want an honest man.”

Umar joined JP at the signing ceremony held on Thursday afternoon.
Umar, who had served as Home Minister in the current administration, has said he wished to assist the party in the upcoming Presidential elections.
He previously said he would run in the presidential election as the JP candidate, if its leader Qasim Ibrahim 'is ineligible'.
However, JP’s deputy leader Dr Hussain Rashee Ahmed cited the party’s policy as stating that only the JP leader can run for president on the party ticket.
While not giving any details, Riyaz on Thursday said that they have drafted a new party policy, due to changes that needed to be made.
Some top JP officials have told RaajjeTV they are dissatisfied over Umar joining the party, and some have warned that this would create a rift in the opposition coalition, as Umar has repeatedly vowed never to work with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) – the largest party in the coalition.
