Audit report for 2015 for Home Ministry has shown that Finance Ministry had authorised the release of millions, against principles in the Financial Act.
The revelations were made in the report issued with the Audit Report, sent in by Auditor General Hassan Ziyaath.
The Auditor General noted that as per clause 8.23 of the Financial Act, a sum not exceeding 15 percent of the total amount can be released as advance payment, if the total amount of the project exceeds MVR 1,000,000.
However, the report revealed that 50 percent of the project value was released with Finance Ministry authorization. The total amount released was MVR 4,227,067.
Additionally, MVR 1,201,300 was released against the Financial Act and against Ministry of Finance and Treasury permits.
Ziyath added that as advances for the Minivan 50 activities a total sum of MVR 26,708,253 was issued.
The report highlighted may activities connected to Minivan 50 that could lead to corruption.
