Former President Mohamed Nasheed has condemned the decision made by US President Donald Trump in declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, stating that this will ‘only serve to antagonize extremist views’.
In a tweet posted following the decision made by US, President Nasheed said that pursuing this policy will only deepen discord and embolden extremist views on both sides.
Pursuing a policy that will cause further discord in a space such as Jerusalem will only serve to antagonise extremist views on all sides of the conflict.

Following the decision, the Foreign Ministry of the Maldives had issued a statement, which had failed to directly condemn the decision. Islamic nations have condemned the decision.
President Nasheed’s tweet is an indication to the radical elements on both Israel and Palestine. The decision is expected to ignite tensions in the Middle East.
