Three Members of Parliament had filed case in Supreme Court of the Maldives, after Elections Commission (EC) nullified their seats on basis of the Supreme Court ruling on floor crossing.
MPs who filed case are Mahchangolhi North Constituency MP Abdullah Sinan, Dhangethi Constituency MP Ilham Ahmed and Thinadhoo North Constituency MP Abdullah Ahmed.
A senior official of Jumhooree Party had confirmed the news to RaajjeMV. The three MPs filed suit in Court seeking to overturn the ruling issued by EC.
EC had stripped MPs Sinan and Ilham from their Parliamentary seats on August 27th, while MP Abdullah was removed on September 5th.
The three MPs had filed the case separately.
In addition to these three MPs, MPs for Thulusdhoo Constituency, Vilingili Constituency, Madduvarri Constituency and Dhihdhoo Constituency had filed suit in Court after EC delivered the same verdict on their seats.
Supreme Court had previously ruled there was no reason to overturn the EC verdict.
Supreme Court ruling on July 13th criminalized floor crossing, citing that if an MP had defected, resigned or was removed from his or her party, then that MP will lose his Parliament seat. therefore, this move by PPM can be deemed as an attempt to remove MP Mohamed from his seat. However, all the MPs who had faced removal had resigned from PPM on their own accord.
