The sale of the Housing Development Corporation’s (HDC) ‘Rehendhi’ flats, built by TATA over plots occupied by Gaakoshi and Arabiyya, has been suspended.

In a post by Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu on his official Twitter account, he said that the sale of these flats was suspended due to the lack of a proper waiting list procedures.

The tweet said that the government does not believe ‘citizens should queue up and wait’ in order to potentially acquire these flats, and therefore sale of flats have been suspended until a better procedure is established.

Roughly 200 individuals who want to acquire a flat at the premises had queued up outside Gaazee School in Hulhumalé after the ministry announced that application forms would be available there from Monday onwards.

The government will only release application forms for individuals who have bank guarantee of at least MVR 200,000 for initial deposits.

105 of the 264 flats built at the premises are available for purchase.
