The monsoon depression formed near Sri Lanka could impact parts of the Maldives, the Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has said.
The MET Office, which on Thursday declared a yellow alert for the regions between Haa Alif and Meemu Atoll in the Maldives, said that the outer bands of the storm could cause rough seas and heavy winds.
The tropical threat had formed off of Sri Lanka and Kanyakumari, a coastal town in the state of Tamil Nadu at the very tip of the Indian subcontinent.
It had travelled in a west-north-westerly direction and crossed Sri Lanka’s coast around noon on Thursday.
