Fishing vessel runs aground in Lhaviyani atoll
It was reported late Wednesday night
No injuries reported, said vice president of Lhaviyani atoll council
Work has begun to refloat the fishing vessel, rough seas an obstacle

A boat has run aground a reef near Lhaviyani atoll.

Noting that work has begun to refloat the vessel 'Aligaa Fara'h', vice president of the Lhaviyani atoll council, Ibrahim Shimau said that they received a report of the incident at around 2 am on Wednesday.

"There were no injuries," he added.

He said that the coastguard, along with the people of Kurendhoo, are working to refloat the fishing vessel.

However, Shimau noted that rough sea conditions have been an obstacle in their work to refloat the vessel.

While heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country, due to the depression that developed near Sri Lanka on Wednesday, Maldives Meteorological Services has warned sea travelers to be wary of the bad weather.
