Seven individuals were awarded this year’s National Youth Awards.
In addition to the National Youth Awards, the Shaheed Jawad Umar memorial shield was awarded as well.
The ceremony was held on Sunday night and attended by Cabinet Ministers and state dignitaries.
The seven recipients of the National Youth Awards are;
- Ahmed Ghalib of Galolhu Vashafaru for business and economic sector
- Hussain Shiham of Thahumeena House in Dharavandhoo island in Baa Atoll for creativity
- Ali Naseem of Maafannu Asia for activism against drugs
- Ahmed Shiham of Henveyru Kudhihithige for sports
- Ahmed Zaushan of Mahchangolhi Greenville for vocational training
- Ahmed Nasheed of Maajehige in Dhehvadhoo island in Gaaf Alif Atoll for volunteer work
- Ahmed Shafiu of Morning Star in Maarandhoo island in Haa Alif Atoll for activism in family planning
Shaheed Jawad Umar memorial shield was awarded to Ahmed Shafiu of Faaziraa Manzil in Nilandhoo island in Faafu Atoll. Shafiu was awarded the Shaheed Jawad Umar memorial shield for his role in saving the lives of a five-year-old child and the mother back in 2013, while he was serving as an officer of Maldives Police Service (MPS).
