MP Ibrahim Shareef, a longstanding parliamentarian, has stated his conviction for the opposition’s reform work and said that he will be joining them in protest in upcoming parliamentary sittings.

Shareef said this having expressed detest over pro-government parliamentarians’ reported treatment of opposition parliamentarians at the review committee for 2018’s state budget.

“I have been a parliamentarian for over four years now, I expressed concern in parliament but I have never broke decorum and approached the bench. Now I will, and change will come” MP Shareef said.

MP Shareef said that pro-government parliamentarians, who hold the majority at the committee, had wholly refused to allow the opposition to speak.

The opposition had expressed concern over the committee omission to summon Maldives Monetary Authority governor Ahmed Naseer and Auditor General Haasan Ziyath.
