The proposed state budget for 2018 is ‘miracle-like’ working of ruling party aligned parliamentarians and will not be subject to change, said opposition MP Ali Hussein.
MP Hussein made these comments after having stated that the parliament’s budget committee has expedited passing the budget, and pro-government parliamentarians had ensured that the opposition’s voice at the committee was restricted.
“It is like God’s word or a miracle working, it cannot be challenged or changed” Hussein said.
MP Hussein spoke out against his alleged attitude of pro-government parliamentarians, to say that the very spirit of democracy does not give the majority the power to make all the decisions, and must give room to opposing sentiments.
Opposition parliamentarians had boycotted the last committee sitting, although the committee’s chair had said that the budget passes review with a unanimous vote.
The ‘unanimous’ vote came with only pro-government parliamentarians present at the committee meeting.
