Gan Constituency MP Fayyaz Ismail has called on Finance Minister Ahmed Munawwar to check a dictionary for the meaning of democracy.
He made the statement as a rebuttal to the statements made by the Minister in Parliamentary Committee to review the budget for 2018.
In the Committee meeting, Minister Munawwar warned that allotting budgets for development projects in Constituencies would be difficult, if their Parliament Members failed to vote for the budget.
Referring to the statements, MP Fayyaz said that Finance Ministers had presented the state budgets for the previous years without such sentiments coming forth. As such, the Parliamentarian said the Minister’s statements were deeply concerning and embarrassing.
MP Fayyaz said the purpose of an opposition was not to green light every action of the Government. He further said MPs cannot be penalized for voting in a certain manner. MP Fayyaz added that MPs would not just vote for a haphazardly compiled budget.
Minister Munawwar in the Parliament session remarked that in several nations, members of the opposition voted for the budget. Firing back at this, MP Fayyaz said US Government had halted several times after Congress failed to vote in the budget.
MP Fayyaz called on the Minister to refer to a dictionary to understand the meaning of democracy, if they fail to understand it.
