A seaplane، of the national carrier Maldivian, crashed while taking off on Thursday.
Managing Director of the Island Aviation Service, Abdul Haris, said that the seaplane crashed "after hitting an object in the sea during takeoff" from Dhoores Retreat Resort in Dhaalu atoll. He said that it was the plane's water rudder that hit the object, damaging it and causing the seaplane to crash.
Photos show that the front of the seaplane had submerged shortly after the crash.
A total of 15 people were traveling in the seaplane at the time of the crash, 12 passengers and three crew members. There were no injuries, and all have been taken to safety.
A Maldivian seaplane was forced to crash land last month, after losing control due to the weather. Some of the crew members had sustained minor injuries in the incident.
